My 2024 Goals: Testing, Rust, and Accessibility as a Front-End Dev

March 28, 2024

Growing up, my obsession with organizing my calendar and constantly seeking ways to enhance productivity was second nature. The catalysts for change, however, came in the form of two influential content creators: Matt D'Avella and Nathaniel Drew.

Reflecting on the lifestyle I wish I had known earlier, I found myself drawn to minimalism and essentialism. These philosophies, though distinct, share the core principle of identifying what is essential in life and having the courage to eliminate the rest. This journey led me to experiment with various methods for note-taking and task planning, ultimately crafting a system tailored to my needs — a system I'll delve into in a future article.

Today, I'm excited to share my new yearly goals as a budding front-end engineer eager to learn and explore.

For each year, I set a maximum of three goals, categorizing them into career, family & friends, and personal development.

In 2024, I'm embarking on an exploration of new technologies, taking a closer look at the fascinating world of testing while dipping my toes into the intricacies of Rust. Additionally, I'm diving into Vue.js and Nuxt.js, two technologies that are relatively new to me.

The belief that learning extends beyond our comfort zones, hobbies, or work has always resonated with me. Two years ago, I embraced this philosophy by learning chess, evolving from a novice to a skilled player. Now, hungry for a new challenge, I've set my sights on learning sign language.

Why sign language?

In my exploration of UX/UI, frontend engineering, and web design, a profound realization stuck with me: we create solutions for a minority of people — those with limited internet access, low-capacity devices, or disabilities. If they can understand the solution, then anyone can.

This realization directly influences my focus on website accessibility, performance, and security. And not only to communicate with a broader audience but also to be prepared to lend a helping hand to those who may need assistance.

As I embark on this journey, I'm excited to share insights, experiences, and the evolution of my goals. Stay tuned for more on my customized productivity system and the adventures that lie ahead!
